MINCODE members immediately came together to undertake joint assessments and coordinate emergency response
04 November | In just one month, Mindanao has been shaken by three earthquakes on October 16, 29 and 31, 2019 within the same location, each compounding the effects of the previous one. An estimated number of 35,000 families comprising of more than 100,000 persons were affected in 200 barangays in Regions XI and XII (Source: NDRRMC SitRep No. 11).
The Mindanao Coalition of Development NGO Networks (MINCODE), together with its Member Networks: PBSP-Mindanao, PhilDHRRA, PAKISAMA-Mindanao, KAMI, AADC and AF through the Kasilak Foundation gathered for the Region XI’s DRR Coordination Hub Meeting of the 6.6 and 6.5 Magnitude Earthquake that struck Regions XI and XII.
The group reviewed the latest NDRRMC Situation Report as of 6:00 AM of November 04, 2019 noting the areas and numbers of communities affected, relief operations delivered, and the actions currently taken by the local governments in addressing vulnerabilities of families affected of the earthquake.
Currently, MINCODE members are undergoing rapid damage and needs assessments in the Cotabato Province, particularly in the municipalities of Makilala, Tulunan, and Magpet, as well as in the municipality of Bansalan in Davao del Sur. While conducting the rapid damage and needs assessment, MINCODE members are distributing food packs, potable water, and temporary shelter kits.
The meeting also discussed how the coalition can support local government units in providing immediate needs of affected families. Shelter kits, medicines, water, hygiene kits, cash assistance, and psychosocial support are among the immediate requirements. Resources are currently being mobilized.
